Albania Solar Fan

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy of Albania received four applications for solar power projects with a combined capacity of 235 MW. A proposed unit in Fier, the country's photovoltaics hub, would be the second-biggest in the country. Solar power accounts for 6% of electricity production in Albania.

A company called Euron Solar-PV has submitted an application to the Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy for the construction of a 100 MW Solar power plant in the villages of Fushe and Povelce, near Fier City. The project is currently in its initial stages and the public has two weeks to submit comments and objections.

Albania ran a 300 MW solar tender last year. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy shortlisted nine bidders with an average price of €0.0513 ($0.054)/kWh offered across 283.9 MW of capacity allocated in July. The country had deployed 163 MW of solar by the end of 2023, according to figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

A proposed unit in Fier, the country's photovoltaics hub, would be the second-biggest in the country. Solar power accounts for 6% of electricity production in Albania. More than half of the photovoltaic output is from the Karavasta facility, the biggest of its kind in the Western Balkans. It has 140 MW in peak capacity.

At present, solar power accounts for 6% of Albania's total electricity generation, with more than half of the PV generation coming from the Karavasta plant, which is the largest PV facility in the Western Balkans with a peak capacity of 140 MW.

Fifteen of them belong to solar energy, with a production capacity of over 227,000 MW. The number of photovoltaic plants reached 27 last year, but their production is still low, generating around 50,000 MWh of energy out of a total production of 7 million MW in Albania in 2022.
