The fast frequency response (FFR) of inverter-based resources is an important mitigation option for maintaining grid security under the conditions of low inertia and insufficient primary frequency response capability. However, the understanding and technical characteristics of the FFR of inverter-based resources are still unclear.
With the continuous improvement of the penetration rate of new energy, the power grid gradually presents a weak network state. Voltage controlled grid connected inverter (VCI) has attracted more and more attention in recent years because it can show stronger stability under the conditions of weak and extremely weak power grid.
However, the active power control bandwidth of VCI is much lower than that of current controlled grid connected inverter (CCI), the power step response of VCI under the extremely weak network reaches the second level, which is difficult to meet the requirements of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for dynamic response.
It can be seen from the figure that the power regulation time is 1.52 s without fast power control, and 0.085 s with fast power control. It can be seen that the proposed fast power control strategy can greatly reduce the active power regulation time. Fig. 11.
It can be seen that under the condition of SCR = 1.1, after adding fast power control, the control bandwidth increases from 0.6 Hz to 20.2 Hz, and the power response time decreases from 1.55 s to 0.047 s. Fig. 7. Amplitude frequency curve and step response of active power transfer function before and after adding fast power control.
The inertia response and primary frequency regulation capability of synchronous grids are declining owing to the increasing penetration of inverter-based resources.
