Solar Energy System Equipment in North Africa

One of the promising aspects of photovoltaic technology was providing household electricity in developing and emerging countries . However, the fact remains that in resource-rich Africa, North Africa in particular, one of the lowest components in electricity generation is renewable energy.

The NPC for the PV-based solar schemes planned to be founded in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco were determined to be about US$3.14B, US$16.8B, US$13.9B and US$13.1B, respectively. The COE and unmet electric loads of the examined twelve PVs across the four remaining North African countries are depicted in Fig. 5, Fig. 6.

Innovative solar projects are revolutionizing rural African communities, offering solutions to long-standing energy access challenges. From off-grid systems to mini-grids and solar-powered water pumps, these technologies improve living standards, foster economic growth, and promote sustainability. The future of solar energy in Africa is bright.

The solar energy sector holds immense potential for job creation in Africa, with projections suggesting up to 1 million jobs by 2025. These roles span manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and sales. Training programs and local capacity-building initiatives are crucial to equip communities with the necessary skills.

From an economic and performance aspect, owing to their minimal costs of electricity and high met electric load percentages, Mut, El Quseer, and Sharm El-Sheikh come out evidently as the optimal sites found in Egypt for employing solar energy. From a meteorological aspect, those three locations differ in topography and climate.

Solar-powered water pumps revolutionize agriculture by ensuring year-round irrigation, improving food security, and reducing women's time spent fetching water. Africa faces a significant energy access challenge, with approximately 600 million people lacking access to electricity (UN Trade and Development).
